Dr. Helson is originally from Ontario, and his family moved to Dartmouth, NS, to begin private practice upon graduation from CMCC in 1994. Later that year Dr. Helson began studies towards his Sports Specialty with the College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada) under the Field Practitioner's Program, and successfully completed the examinations for his Fellowship designation in 2003. To date, he has been a member of health care teams at various Provincial, National, and International events, including: the Nova Scotia Provincial Body Building Championships; Jeux de Canada Games in London, ON; Four Continents Figure Skating Championships; the IIHF World Junior and Women's World Ice Hockey Championships; Short Track National Speed Skating Championships; Elite Canada Gymnastics Championships; as well as the East Coast Ice Jam Hockey Tournaments. As much satisfaction as there is to working with such a diverse group of health care providers to provide the best level of care for the attending athletes at these events, Dr. Helson's greatest satisfaction comes from using the information learned over the years to help the everyday person lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Looking ahead, Dr. Helson looks forward to giving back to his profession and the RCCSS(C) in particular. The experience gained from being members of many Chiropractic organizations over the years; from CMCC's Board of Governors, the executive of the RCCSS(C), various Sports Teams, the Sports Medicine Council of NS, as well as the Council of the NSCC, has repeatedly demonstrated the importance of being involved in one's profession, and contributing whenever possible. One of the main strengths gleaned from these past positions is a strong administrative skill set. The work of The Foundation of the RCCSS(C) is vital to the research initiatives of the RCCSS(C) Members. Dr. Helson looks forward to assisting them in the pursuit of their goals through the efforts of The Foundation, and thereby advancing Sports Chiropractic.
